As an Asian dude who has never been interested in the AC universe , I want to say that I’m all for more diversity and representation. It’s important to showcase characters that aren’t just white and male. Where I think you miss the mark is that there is such limited representation of Asian men in leading roles ANYWHERE that the fact that a leading game like AC set in Japan doesn’t have someone I can relate to is incredibly disappointing. I think there should have been a third character, Japanese male, and it would have made this whole issue nonexistent. I’m still waiting for someone like me to get opportunities across media.

You know, for a change I am glad a studio went with an actual historical black person indulging in that so rare theme of black history. Even though Assassins Creed series has less historical accuracy than Game of Thrones. But this is one game I will give a biblical fishing pass. I just dont feel like immersing myself in cultural appropriation of minority and I cant see myself identifying with the main protagonists as I am neither a japanese woman who can kickflip and beat up dudes, nor am I member of that proud race Yasuke hails from.

They could have made him a dlc playable character and made a japanese guy as the main one thats way more better

From a gameplay point of view Yasuke is a good choice as he gives a natural way to explain things to the mostly non-japanese players.

Even the Samurai in the late 1800's were quite impressed by the swordsmanship of the French officers they got to know. As a rule they were very well trained, especially cavalry officers.

The reality check that speaking of samurai as if they were honorable warriors is just blatant, made up by media, bullshit - is incredibly important to our developing understanding that the romanticization of war is just silly asf like believing in santa claus or the devil. I've been playing Assassin's Creed games for years lol. I know they are not always historically accurate & the storytelling has declined drastically, but I play them for the pure enjoyment.

8:07 yes, Nioh was a Japanese created game, and their culture to augment. With Ubisoft, they’ve taken their own liberty (with a sprinkle of modern politics), to make Yasuke the main protagonist. I totally agree - most historical records show Yasuke to be a samurai, but I wouldn’t consider him a representative of Japanese samurai in the Sengoku period. As an Assassins Creed Odyssey fan, I would have been pretty upset it Alexios and Kassandra were non-Greek characters. There is a sense of historical representation here, and Yasuke - a blip in Japanese history, spending only 3 years in country - is not a fair representation of the Japanese samurai. I know a few Japanese that are pretty upset with this, and feel Ubisoft is trolling Japanese culture. I feel the same. This feels less like a representation of Japanese samurai, than a representation of Ubisoft political views. Side note; do you think there would have been an uproar about the characters if both were Japanese? No one would have been upset about that. Ubisoft chose to pick the controversial route… which says a lot about the way they see the world nowadays. Rant over. 😊

Honestly a lot of the issues with Naoe I feel are acceptable because this is a Assassin's Creed game first and a samurai game second. I don't hold Assassin's Creed games to a ton of historical scrutiny since the games make it very clear it's historical fiction and should not really be used to learn history, aside from the cool discovery tours we get. That being said, having Yasuke as a main character is so cool and it is something I've been wanting to see in ANY media. Last thing I can think of was that terrible Yasuke anime 😭 Assassin's Creed games have been pretty hit or miss lately. For every Mirage or Origins we get an Odyssey or a Valhalla. I'm excited for this game, but I haven't really liked Ubisoft Quebec's games so I'm feeling a lot of skepticism.

What ppl should me mad about is the ridiculous prices. There's nothing wrong with Yasuke.

I preordered Samurai Warriors 4 Special Anime pack for PS4. The anime was whateves. I remember playing mostly on the Vita becuz of the remote play option. The the Twin Cherry Blossom OST was badass. Nobuyuki was basically Cao Pi with a less mean personality and Charge attack spam. A lot of the game was overshadowed by Spirit of the Sanada which by far is the best SW game to date. But nothing beats the PS2 memories of the SW1 Kawanakajima battle drum OST with Yukimura leading the pincer attack.

No crap ‘’outside of the animus’’/’’real’’ world BS, I just want the History part. I really hope the combat will be good. 1.Combat. Enjoyable , fluid, clean and diverse melee combat with elegant movesets such as the combat of AC1 to Brotherhood. The Combat in Revelations against the Janissaries were superb …but the rest of the Melee combat was too repetitive especially with the yatagan (Idiotic head stab and 360 twist..I HATED that). If the ‘’duel encounters’’ are going to mimic battling Janissaries and brutes of the first 4 games..I will be so intensely happy. I loved how in the older games, fighting a large brute enemy, unarmed, you could counter by disarming him and using his own,large, two handed weapon to take him out, (Like using the axe to slash/pin into his foot) and he falls down with you leaving the weapon in him, thus forcing you to return to your basic weapon options. Melee Combat should not rely much on button mashing and ‘’adrenaline power ups’’ instead it should focus on well timed counters and beautiful/elegant counter/take down moves. I am so pleased that hidden blade combat is back, just give us the option if we want x1 or x2 hidden blades. In Origins, I hated that for the Copesh … the most iconic Egyptian sword...there are only 2 KILL MOVES… The level icons above the enemy means either you can just button mash to kill lower level enemies or if the level is x1 level above yours, the enemies are damage sponges that one hit you and I hated that. Piss off with enemy level number and idiotic damage numbers! Whilst fighting unarmed , you can’t disarm an enemy , here too it is just button mashing and ‘’adrenaline power ups’’..to do faster button mashing…. It is frightening to me how AC1s combat is far superior to a game created more than a decade later. No damage numbers , no health bars, I want only good fluid combat with counters and beautiful deadly movesets. Like the first 4 games in AC. Armour getting damaged in battle and you having to repair it as a blacksmith just like in AC 2 + Brotherhood will be stupendous. I look forward to using shurikens,blowpipe,Ninjato,tanto and Kuma throwing knives as the Shinobi as well as using a katana,wakizashi, tanto and Yumi bow as the Samurai. 2.Bladed/non gunpowder ranged weapon diversity. The ability to choose what weapon layout to use. I want to use a single handed knife or a single handed sword with a single left handed hidden blade that you can use in combat (As in AC Brotherhood). Don’t force us to constantly use a set layout like Sword+sword or Sword + dagger (Or two hidden blades). I much rather prefer the weapon layout of AC1,2,Brotherhood compared to the forced double handed layout of Black Flag/Rogue. Don't force us to use a hidden blade and a tanto simultaneously, let that be an OPTION PLEASE! Don’t just have two weapon options and a few gadgets like the steaming excrement ‘AC Syndicate’ that some woke feminazi cultist shat out. The weapon options in AC1 + AC 2 + brotherhood were brilliant, multitudes of swords, axes,maces and more to choose from . Personalised craft Katannas is a monumental idea!! I can’t wait to craft my own personal perfect katana! This should 100% be a feature in all future AC titles please!!! 3.Stealth. During the day. Social stealth, blending in crowds, blending with factions , blending on a bench and stealthily assassinating enemies from these positions and then gently placing them on the bench to ensure no suspicion from amongst the surrounding people. Such as In Unity where you use a corner to remain out of sight, assassinating an enemy around a corner you kill the target and you neatly place the body against the wall you were hiding against also out of sight. At night. I love that environmental light source stealth will be in the game. Snuffing out torches ,hiding in the dark, with a light / visibility metre just like in the perfect ‘’ Thief’’ series is superb! Even though I know a big black Sauske Samurai will never be able to use social stealth, it doesn't bother me, because Samurai follow the same philosophy as a Western European Knight, they use their honour and appearance to fight in full view, in front of everyone, without stealth, without assassinations. They fight in the open so that's cool. The girl shinobi, has to use stealth and tools to assassinate people and sneak away otherwise she dies in battle and that is awesome! Although we now have THE SUPERB GHOST OF TSUSHIMA ON PC!!!.. I will not be buying it if we are forced to create another login account , this time for Play Station, a console that I have never used. Thus I look forward to AC:Shadows.

I wish they don't make Yasuke combat-focus hero and the chick a stealth-focus heroine. Assassin like Ezio are literal John Wick, both of them should excel at both but maybe in different way.

This is my favorite Samurai Warriors game, it has a lot of content, a very well-done story and the best gameplay in the series for me.

People have a lot of problems grasping the meaning of "historical fiction".

My problem with Yasuke isn't him being Yasuke, or a black guy. But that a black (the only one in the entire country), tall man being a head taller than everybody else running around on rampages isn't the best stealthy assassin working for a secret order. And is equally stupid to the feamle Hollywood ninja. But idk. Assassins Creed stopped being Assassins Creed over a decade ago and have devolved into "we have Witcher 3 at home" with some psuedo historical nonsense and much worse writing. I would love to see a character like Yasuke as a badass demonslayer in an Onimusha game though:D

I wholeheartedly agree everything you said. Beating Sanada Yukimura, Date Masamune, Honda Tadagatsu as a British guy was okay but playing as Yasuke is not. When did AC games were historically accurate? I actually dissappointed because of female protaganist too 😄. She doesn't fit that kunoichi and spy image in my mind too.

As a big Warriors fan, I really forget them until this news, probably because of recent titles flops (DW 9 and SW 5). Where are DW 10 and SW 6? For the SW 4 DX, I already have all four game of SW 4 saga. SW 4, SW 4ii, SW 4 Empires and Spirit of Sanada. Spirit of Sanada has best content, SW 4ii has best skills three, SW 4 has best story and SW 4 Empire is best at everything overall. I think SW 4ii improved skill system from SW 4 but combat is perfected in Spirit of Sanada. I think Koei made a big mistake not continueing Spirit of Sanada's aproch. They kinda did it but rebooting character designs kinda alienated fandom. SW 4 Empire is just perfect, My favorite Warriors game among the entire Warriors franchise. They should implement its setting to next Empire titles. Maybe only feature they could add should be single officer road from DW8 Empire. A Vagabond mode could be cool.

tbh I've been waiting the japanese Assassins creed since Assassins Creed Chronicles came out. Now....the hype is loooong gone. Plus, with ubisoft's pattern of making games currently, I'm not even gonna consider buying it.
